As I pen down my thoughts for yet another issue of our school ,a nostalgic feeling of pride and joy pervades my mind along with an eager anticipation of what the future holds for us . Each issue of our school magazine is not merely the Paulian family album of the year gone by, but it is a milestone that marks our growth and achievements, unfolds our imaginations, and gives life to our thoughts and aspirations.
I congratulate the editorial board for their strenuous efforts in compiling and giving final shape to the annual school magazine and all the teachers and students who have added flesh and blood to it through their accomplishments and creative works
The future of work is changing rapidly, and India is no exception. We live in an era where globalization and technology continue to disrupt the workforce dynamics. Automation of monotonous tasks with artificial intelligence (AI), Blockchain, 5G enhanced connectivity, human augmentation, edge computing, to name a few, are slowly replacing the need for human actions and decisions with machines and codes. The shift to automation is displacing human jobs. Job-related competencies and abilities that are necessary to complete work, called hard skills, are quickly turningobsolete. This trend is only going to accelerate in the years to come.
According to Deloitte, soft skill-intensive occupations will grow at 2.5 times the jobs in other fields and account for two-thirds of all jobs by 2030.
Soft skills, often called people skills or emotional intelligence, are defined as the ability to interact amicably with others. These interpersonal abilities include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, adaptability, empathy, leadership, and time management, among others. While possessing hard skills like technical expertise and specialized knowledge is important, it’s not enough to guarantee professional success.
By 2030, A.I. will become more pervasive, and information will become even more attainable than today. However, machines will still not match human intuition, judgment, and empathy. For example, A.I. can shortlist candidates for hiring; however, only an H.R. would know who is best suited based on the candidate’s personality.
The List of soft skills that will become prominent in 2030 are frequently referred to as “4 C’s,” which include critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating, and collaborating. Soft skills include innate personality traits and abilities that can be learned.
The only institution where soft skills are consciously and naturally infused into a student’s persona, while it is most open to formation, is the school. School years are the most appropriate time in life to acquire these interpersonal skills, before you have even thought of your preferred career path. This is because developing and ingraining your soft skills is crucial for achieving success in any job or career, more so in an automated workplace. So, my dear children, to be future- ready
Don’t just learn, experience.
Don’t just read, absorb.
Don’t just change, transform.
Don’t just relate, advocate.
Don’t just promise, prove.
Don’t just criticize, encourage.
Don’t just think, ponder.
Don’t just take, give.
Don’t just see, feel.
Don’t just dream, do.
Don’t just hear, listen.
Don’t just talk, act.
Don’t just tell, show.
Don’t just exist, live.”
